On behalf of the Conant High School staff, I am happy to welcome you to the 2015-16 school year! We have been busy at CHS this summer preparing for student arrival: classrooms have been painted, carpeted, floors have been cleaned, and the Music Room renovations have been completed! Along with the facility updates, we have also updated our daily schedule. We are now on a new 7-period hybrid, Monday through Friday. This schedule will provide consistency, while also affording adequate time each week and throughout the school year. As always, we feel it is important that lines of communication are open. Parents (and students) are encouraged to contact teachers and administrators with questions regarding their child's schooling. Every staff member has had a voicemail, email account, and a webpage allowing for dialogue and communication. Patents have access from home to their child's grades, schedule, and attendance via Web2School. Please contact the School Counseling Office or the Main Office. To be updated updated on events and happenings via text messages, join our free Remind App by going to www.remind.com/join/chs admin.

Following the January flood in the Music Room, the School Board approved $75,000 to complete the clean up of the room, and to renovate it in order to better utilize the space for learning. On Monday crews came in and started tearing the carpet off the walls (yes you read that correctly, off the walls!). The plan is to improve acoustics, storage, and layout as well as update paint and carpeting. The project is to be completed by June 30.

It is hard for me to believe that it is already January! I hope all the students and staff had a restful and happy holiday break. While school was closed for the past two weeks, there was still a lot of activity happening at Conant High School:
Congratulations to the Girls' Basketball Team for winning the Zero Gravity Holiday Basketball Tournament at Keene State College.
Congratulations to senior Justin Haase in winning the shot put event at a track meet at UNH. Not only did he win, but he also set a Conant school record with a throw of 50 feet! Great job Justin.
And finally, the hallways at CHS were painted over the break giving the interior of the school a much needed clean, fresh look. We are not opposed to murals, but we are looking for some contemporary ones painted by current students. If you are interested, please see Mr. Pimental, Mr. Simoneau, or Ms. Fairbanks or Ms. Mitschmyer.

Students in grades 9 and 10 will be participating in the Test of Measures of Academic Progress (MAPs) on Tuesday, September 30th and Wednesday, October 1st. The Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School District has made an investment in charting student achievement and progress over time and the MAPs test is administered at the start of the semester and again at the end of the school year for students in grades 9 and 10. MAPs are state-aligned computerized adaptive tests that accurately reflect the instructional level of each student and measure growth over time. Students will be assessed in math an English.
